To PCR or Not To PCR?!
Post Consumer Resin (PCR) and rPET have had their use lifecycles over the decades come and go:
[Customers and Retailers] “We’d love to be involved … oh that’s the increase in cost? Hmm … we’d like to be involved but not with our Strategic brands, we will do it with some of our niche brands.” Then, the idea and movement fizzles out.
No longer will this be the case … whether it be Federal or more local state or municipality laws — Recycling and use of recycled materials (as it should be) IS HERE TO STAY!
So, how do my Team and I efficiently and cost effectively manage the requirement both for existing brands in the marketplace with little to no impact to our existing consumers and for new launches/consumers? How do we maximize the visibility to educate the consumer we are, in fact, a Sustainable company with Brands hearing loud and clear as well as answering the call of what the vastly increasing ‘Green’ customer base is asking for and demanding their products they buy to support?

We will support:
Scalability - Going from 0% to 70% or more in PCR can be great for the brand/marketing but to purchasing and supply chain — not so much
Expectation — If your brand has a design or custom color recognized by your consumers or eye popping shelf space, there is a balance to be had to not impact consumer experience. Doesn’t mean a ‘no’ to PCR — absolutely does not — but it does need to be carefully vetted before launching.
Education as Not all PCR is Created Equal — We can not stress this enough. Worldwide there are PCR manufacturers making sometimes outlandish, unbelievable claims. Don’t let your brands fall victim to marketing and falsehoods.
An example, we had a customer utilizing an incredible 100% “rPET” solution and it looked just like virgin PET resin. You dig into it deeper and start asking the right questions around their process and why isn’t every rPET manufacturer doing this? Turns out, it’s truly not a post consumer resin solution or a recycled material at all — it for all intents and purposes is a resin material. The manufacturer just said the right key words, presented samples and the huge multi-national customer took their word for it. Fall out was first embarassment, some hard truths came out and a manager level firing as well as a complete change in direction for the brand and missed launched causing waves at the Retailer.
Don’t let this be you … Reach out to SkyQ for a creative, efficient approach to you and your Brand needs.
